About Sport to Calendar

Sport to Calendar (STC) is a free web app built and operated by sporttocal.com. It lets AFLW fans add fixture matches directly to their personal calendar — no manual data entry required. Select your favourite teams and have every game appear automatically in your schedule for the entire season.

What the app does

Sport to Calendar fetches up-to-date AFLW fixture data for the current season and generates calendar events for every match involving your selected teams. Each event includes the round number, competing teams, venue, and scheduled date and time. You can add new events, update existing ones when the fixture changes, or remove them at any time — all from within the app.

No sign-in is required to download a standard .ics calendar file, which can be imported into Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, or any calendar application. Signing in with Google allows the app to add and manage events in your Google Calendar automatically.

Why we request access to your Google account

When you choose to sign in with Google, Sport to Calendar requests the following permissions:

  • Google Calendar (events) — to create, update, and delete AFLW fixture events in your calendar on your behalf.
  • Basic profile & email — to display your name or email address in the app so you know which account is connected.

We only ever read or modify the calendar events that this app creates. We do not access, read, or alter any of your existing calendar events, contacts, emails, or any other Google data. Your Google credentials are never stored on our servers. Access tokens are held only in your browser session and expire automatically.

We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any third party. For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.

How to Add AFLW Fixtures to Your Calendar

Sport to Calendar makes it easy to follow the AFLW season without having to manually track the schedule. Here is a step-by-step guide for getting your fixtures synced, no matter which calendar app you use.

Option 1 — Direct Google Calendar Sync

Click Sign in with Google, authenticate with your Google account, then tick the AFLW clubs you want to follow and click Add to Google Calendar. Your fixtures are created instantly as calendar events — no file to download or manually import. The events include the match date, kick-off time in your local timezone, venue, and both team names.

If the AFLW later changes a kick-off time or venue, return to this page, sign in again, and click Update Existing Events. The tool will update every affected event without creating duplicates.

Option 2 — Download an ICS File

Select your teams and click Download ICS File. An .ics file will save to your device. You can then import it into Apple Calendar, Outlook, Thunderbird, Proton Calendar, Fastmail, or any other app that supports the iCalendar standard — which is virtually all of them.

On iPhone/iPad: tap the downloaded file and iOS will offer to add it straight to your calendar. On Mac: double-click the file and Apple Calendar opens automatically. In Outlook: go to File → Open & Export → Import/Export and follow the calendar import steps.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Tool

  • Select multiple teams to track rivalry matches — for example, add both Carlton and Collingwood to catch every time they meet in a women's derby.
  • AFLW kick-off times can change as the season progresses, so return mid-season and click Update Existing Events to keep your calendar current.
  • The ICS download works even without a Google account — it's the best option for Apple Calendar, Outlook, and Samsung Calendar users.
  • If you follow a club based in Perth, Brisbane, or Adelaide, pay attention to venue notes in events for interstate away fixtures, as travel scheduling sometimes produces time adjustments late in the draw.

About the AFLW

The AFL Women's competition — commonly known as the AFLW — is the national elite women's Australian rules football league operated by the AFL. Established in 2017 with eight foundation clubs, the competition has grown rapidly and now fields 18 clubs, mirroring the men's AFL competition in size. The AFLW represents one of the most significant expansions in Australian women's professional sport, providing a pathway for elite female athletes who had previously been limited to state-level competition.

The league's growth has been remarkable by any measure. Attendance records have been broken repeatedly since the competition's inception, with several matches drawing crowds of more than 50,000 at the MCG and other major venues. Television audiences have also grown substantially, with matches broadcast on Channel 7, Fox Footy, and via the AFL website and app. The rise of star players across all 18 clubs has built passionate supporter communities around the women's game at every club.

The AFLW season runs from late August through to November, providing a distinct window in the Australian football calendar that follows the men's Grand Final. This scheduling gives the AFLW its own identity and allows supporters to transition their focus from the men's finals into the women's competition without overlap. The season consists of home-and-away rounds followed by a finals series, culminating in the AFLW Grand Final.

All 18 clubs in the AFLW are affiliated with their corresponding men's AFL clubs, sharing facilities, branding, and supporter bases. This alignment has been central to the competition's growth, giving each women's team an immediate, established fan community from which to build. The competition has also actively invested in grassroots women's and girls' football, with participation rates across Australia growing every year since the AFLW's launch.

How the AFLW Season Works

The AFLW season is structured similarly to the men's AFL competition, with a home-and-away draw followed by a finals series. With 18 clubs in the competition, each club does not play every other club during the regular season — the draw is designed to balance home and away matches while managing the geographical spread of clubs across Australia.

The finals series follows the same McIntyre Final Eight format used in the AFL, giving double chances to the top four clubs on the ladder at the end of the home-and-away rounds. Here is how the four weeks of finals unfold:

Week Match Clubs Involved Stakes
Week 1 Qualifying Finals (×2) 1st vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th Winners advance; losers get a second chance
Week 1 Elimination Finals (×2) 5th vs 8th, 6th vs 7th Win or season is over
Week 2 Semi-Finals (×2) QF losers vs EF winners Win or season is over
Week 3 Preliminary Finals (×2) QF winners vs SF winners Winners earn a Grand Final berth
Week 4 AFLW Grand Final Preliminary Final winners Premiership decider

The AFLW Grand Final venue is confirmed by the AFL closer to the finals period and can vary by season. In recent years, the Grand Final has been held at major venues including Marvel Stadium and the MCG, reflecting the growing stature of the women's game. Adding the full fixture to your calendar — including finals rounds — ensures you're ready the moment your team's next match is confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ICS file?

An ICS file (iCalendar format) is a universal calendar file compatible with virtually every calendar application — Google Calendar, Apple Calendar on iPhone/iPad/Mac, Microsoft Outlook, Samsung Calendar, Thunderbird, Proton Calendar, Fastmail, and more. Once imported, the AFLW fixtures appear as events in your calendar just like any other appointment, complete with date, time, and venue details. You can edit or delete individual events at any time.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is needed to use the ICS download. Select your teams, click Download ICS File, and you're done — no login, no registration. The optional Google Calendar integration requires signing in with an existing Google account so the tool can create events on your behalf. It uses Google's own secure OAuth 2.0 flow and we never see or store your password. We also do not retain your email address beyond what is needed for the calendar API session.

Are the fixture times accurate?

Fixture data is sourced from the Sports DB API, which reflects the officially published AFLW schedule. Times are displayed in your local timezone as detected by your browser. AFLW kick-off times — like those in the men's competition — can be adjusted throughout the season as broadcast partners confirm primetime slots and venue arrangements are finalised. We recommend returning here periodically and updating your events, especially from the midpoint of the season onwards.

How do I update my calendar if times change?

Google Calendar users: Sign in again and click Update Existing Events. The tool will find each event it created and update its time and venue without creating duplicates.

ICS file users: Delete the events you imported previously (most calendar apps let you filter by calendar or search by event name to find them quickly), then download a fresh ICS and import again.

Can I add all 18 teams at once?

Yes. You can select any combination of clubs — from a single team to all 18. Selecting every team gives you the full AFLW fixture in your calendar, ideal for fans who want to follow the whole competition, journalists and broadcasters covering the sport, or anyone who simply wants a complete view of the season schedule at a glance.

Which calendar apps are supported?

The ICS download works with any app that supports the iCalendar standard, including Google Calendar, Apple Calendar (Mac, iPhone, iPad), Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Fastmail, Proton Calendar, Samsung Calendar, and Zoho Calendar. The direct Google Calendar sync works for any user who can sign in with a Google account, including Google Workspace accounts.

Do the events include venue information?

Yes. Each calendar event includes the match venue in the location field. In Google Calendar, tapping the event surfaces the Maps integration so you can get directions to the ground directly from your calendar. The event description also includes the round number and competing teams so you have everything you need at a glance on game day.

Is this service free?

Yes, Sport to Calendar is completely free. There are no subscriptions, no premium tiers, and no account required to download an ICS file. The service is supported by advertising, which keeps it free and covers the costs of maintaining the fixture data feed and API integrations across the season.

The Growth of Women's Australian Football

Women's Australian rules football has a history stretching back far longer than the AFLW's 2017 launch. Women were playing organised football in Victoria as far back as the 1910s, and state-level women's competitions have been running since the 1980s. The establishment of the AFLW marked the arrival of full professional funding, national television coverage, and elite-level facilities for women who had previously balanced their sporting careers with paid employment.

The 2017 season — the first AFLW season — launched with eight clubs and immediately exceeded expectations in terms of both crowd numbers and television audiences. The opening game between Carlton and Collingwood at Princes Park drew a crowd of 24,568, which was larger than many AFL men's matches that season. By the second season, four more clubs had joined the competition, and expansion has continued since.

The competition reached 18 clubs in 2023, bringing in Gold Coast Suns and Essendon as the final expansion clubs. This completed the mirroring of the men's AFL competition and gave the AFLW national reach from Queensland to Western Australia. The full 18-club competition means every AFL club now fields a women's team, deepening supporter engagement and providing more elite opportunities for women footballers across Australia.

Player wages have increased significantly each season as the league has grown, with contracts becoming more substantial and enabling more players to treat football as a primary career rather than a secondary pursuit. The AFLW Women's National Draft, held annually, has become a major event in the football calendar, attracting substantial media coverage and fan interest as clubs invest in building competitive rosters for the seasons ahead.

Why Syncing Your AFLW Calendar Matters

The AFLW fixture, like the AFL men's competition, is not a static document. While the round-by-round structure is published before the season begins, kick-off times for many matches are confirmed only a few weeks out as television broadcast schedules are locked in. This means that even if you note down every game at the start of the year, a meaningful number of those times will change before the matches take place.

Having your AFLW fixtures in a digital calendar — rather than a screenshot or a printed schedule — means you can update them quickly whenever the AFL announces time adjustments. With the Google Calendar integration on Sport to Calendar, this takes seconds: sign in, select your teams, and click Update Existing Events to patch every affected match automatically.

A synced calendar is particularly useful for fans who attend games in person. The AFLW uses a wide range of venues across the country — from major stadiums like the MCG and Optus Stadium to community grounds like Ikon Park, Whitten Oval, and Alberton Oval. Having venue information automatically in your calendar event means directions and travel planning are only a tap away on game day.

For supporters who watch on television or via streaming, the calendar keeps AFLW games visible alongside work and family commitments. You can see instantly whether a Sunday afternoon match clashes with other plans, or whether you need to set a recording before you head out. It's a small change to your routine that makes it easier to follow the season from the opening round to the Grand Final.
